Advanced Speed Tests
(Only perform if instructed to do so.)
Warning: this test involves temporarily changing your broadband username in your router or modem; failure to restore your original username may result in your Internet connection being unavailable.
- Wait for the 123vISP Support team to instruct you to perform this advanced test; this indicates that the speed tester is ready to capture data about your specific line.
- Make a note of your original broadband username and password
- If you use a router then you will need to login to it - Before continuing please read the notes below:
- Change your broadband username to speedtest@speedtest_domain
- Delete the password, leave it blank (if your router will not allow this, please contact us.)
- Restart your Internet connection; your router or modem
NOTE: if you have been advised not to change your broadband username inside your router then please skip the above and carry on the rest of the test below.
- Ensure you are connected to your broadband router using a network cable - do NOT use a wireless connection
- Power on your computer and tap the "F8" key until you see a menu; choose "Safe mode with networking"
- This is a VITAL step as it ensures that no other computer-related issues will affect the speed tests
- Start Microsoft Internet Explorer
- The test tool is calibrated perfectly for Internet Explorer
- Do not use any other browser as the test results will not be accurate
- Go to http://bt-advancedspeedtest.iseu.co.uk/
- Type in the telephone number that your ADSL broadband service runs on and click Go
- Make a note of the speed test results and pass this information back to the support team:
- Speed in Kbps, eg. 456 Kbps
- IP address, eg.217.32.0.1
- Telephone number that you entered
- Date and time that the test completed
- Change your broadband username and password back to normal (if you changed it as per the steps above) and repeat the test with your usual broadband username, sending the results to the support team, so that the data can be compared.
Once the support team have compared the results with your line details they will comment on the results of the test, and offer further suggestions if needed.
